Many thanks for all the feedback letters we've received from campers. We get loads of letters, cards and emails, almost all of which are helpful and encouraging! We do read and consider them all, and we are most grateful for all your comments. We are sorry that we cannot always reply individually to all of them, but they are all read and discussed, and often help us find the best solutions. Thank you.
Dance Camp Wales 2010 is planned for Tuesday 27th July (arrival day) to Saturday 7th August (leaving day).
Regarding the E. Coli infections which were contracted by two campers this year: One child was extremely ill, and we were all very grateful when we heard that she had recovered. There have been some really stupid rumours connected with this, we don't know where they came from. For the record, this is what we do know so far:
- Contrary to some rumours, Joan has not been fined! Neither has the farm been found in any way to blame. (Where do people get these ideas? They don't help!)
- Pembs Environmental Health and Food Hygiene did not find any link between the camp cafe and the e coli outbreak. The cafe was found to have very good hygiene practices.
- The milk and herd were both tested for e coli by the Wales Public Health Service and Welsh Veterinary service, and they did not find any e coli in either.
- There was e coli found in the soil - as is however the case in 90% of UK farmland.
- The most likely sources of the e coli found at DCW were: contact with water or mud from the estuary; the land itself; under cooked meat eaten in the circle; or poor personal hygiene. There has been no conclusion about which was the source.
Despite the above, we do also intend to keep livestock off the field for even longer before the camp starts next year.
Please note we are not a 'festival', we are a small non-profit-making community camp. We do not have trading stalls. We do not hire bands or performers; there is no stage. I guess we just don't really dig consumer culture. Sorry. Thanks!
This website exists for the benefit of Dance Campers, and we hope that for those of you who have access to the web, this may go some way to bridging the gap between camps. We do need to get campers' feedback and views about how the camp should continue to evolve, so if you have any suggestions, comments, contributions or corrections, please do get in touch. We're particularly interested to know which things on the programme you'd like more of, and which things you're not so bothered about.. Thanks!
